You’re not obligated to do any of this.
You can stop at any time.
Why me?
This is so hard I wish I would’ve just kept quiet.
All thoughts that have circulated in my mind at one time or another. Sometimes it just feels like quitting would be the easier option. Why is everyone able to live their life and I’m stuck here? While I was in-patient, one of my therapists gave me a list of quotes that were written by people that have struggled with eating disorders and now are in recovery. I don’t know who wrote them so unfortunately I can’t give anyone credit, but I wanted to share them with you. So if you have thoughts similar to mine about wanting to give up you can think about these.
“What I feared the most was eventually what saved me.”
“Recovery is hard. Regret is harder”
“Eating disorders are insidious and subtly manipulative. The behaviors that initially feel like relief are the same ones that eventually ruin you”
“Recovery is a verb, not a noun. You have to be an active participant in order to continuously improve”
“I hope you keep choosing recovery. Until one day it’s no longer a choice. And you are free.”
“If you wait until everything in your life is perfect before you can begin something challenging and new, you’ll be waiting forever. The best time is now.”
I hope that if you are struggling and wanting to give up, some of those quotes help you keep going. I know they definitely made an impact on me while I was at in-patient. And since healing and growth is not linear, I am sure those thoughts might cross my mind again, but I’ll have these handy and I’ll keep going.
You deserve health
You deserve recovery
You deserve happiness
You deserve to be free of your eating disorder
